Nice and clean rooms, rest of the experience felt cheap.

The rooms were immaculate.

The experience was like being at a German retirement village set in Sri Lanka. Everything in German (not an issue), quiet. The food and drinks options were far below average (fruit lying out, flies, small selections for lunch and dinner, Nescafé powdered instant coffee), bar snacks were tomato and cucumber sandwiches on bread that tasted like dust and a 1” piece of Madeira cake. Alcohol additional cost. Beach nearby essentially a no go as group of men sat outside on patio furniture, facing the exit from the hotel then following you along the beach trying to sell you things.

Wind-down hotel

Great pool, good breakfast, lovely staff - the hotel is very quiet as it’s an Ayurvedic hotel so there are a lot of people there for treatments and to relax. We stayed right at the end of our trip so it was perfect. The beach outside was very quite as it was out of season but we did walk up and there was a place to go surfing and body boarding. Our room was nice - we got lucky as it looked directly down the pool picture attached is from our room

There’s not that many options for dinner outside the hotel, but I highly recommend pier 88. The location also wasn’t that great, at time of booking I didn’t realise it’s not actually bentota it’s just further along. It’s also a slightly older mainly German hotel which was fine for us as we wanted to relax but worth mentioning if you after a younger vibe.

Beautiful Garden & Pool as well as the beach in front of the Hotel is worth a visit!

The hotel is over 20 years old and despite some renovations it looks old. The staff except for one lady at reception were rude and unprofessional and expecting to be tipped for every service. Pool chairs are reserved by the guest and labeled by the pool attendant, once again for a tip! Most Guests are over 50 and German, so everywhere you go in the hotel you are addressed in German. If you are anything else than German you get ignored and if you are Indian looking and female, no attention is given what so ever! The western food presentation is outdated and the taste blend, the local food is westernized with no hint of spice at all! The room was very spacious, but old and worn out, located directly over the restaurant. Mattress was old, hard and supported by a wooden board underneath.

Outstanding hotel. The staff go the extra mile and made our stay homely, safe and pampered. What a treat!

The over reliance on plastic bottles. Although the hotel reassured us that they are sent back to the factory for recycling.

the cleanliness is poor and the food quality is not good the cleanliness of the buffet is poor as well no privacy room does not have a proper door lock the beach is surrounded by vulgars land scape near the pool does not have a proper lighting at night, so even the view is nice in the morning you can’t enjoy it at night which make you feel bored they don’t provide a proper personal care items like shower gel, hand soap, shampoo, body lotion, etc…

Our stay in Bentota

The bedroom was very comfortable, we had a superior suite and it was very spacious and there is a very big balcony that had a table and chairs, sun loungers and a parasol. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was big with an excellent shower. There is a small fridge which is constantly stocked with non alcoholic drinks for free. The pool is lovely and the seats on the pool are cool for the free mocktails you can avail of. There are activities during the day, including aqua-aerobics twice a day. Access to the beach is straight from the hotel so you don't need to go far to see the waves. The food for the most part is good, they are simply let down by their desserts, not the selection but the lack of taste but the rest of the food is tasty and there are chefs there that cook items from fresh. There are two buffets but in reality only one as the second one is curry constantly so seems like very little choice in comparison to the one we ate in constantly which fed us pancakes, pastries, eggs, hash-browns, rashers, breads, yogurts, fruits, ice-creams, beef, chicken, pork, pasta, potatoes, fish, prawns, cheeses and salads for example. Some nights they do a set menu instead of a buffet. The staff are lovely and helpful and the place is clean and secure with guarded gates.

There is very little atmosphere, it is very quiet and at times i felt bad speaking to my partner because it is very quiet environment during the day and you can feel like you are disturbing others by having a laugh. We seemed to be the only Irish there so it was just a different culture around us i think but in fairness it suited us for the most part as it meant there was no hassle and was peaceful and calm. But if you are looking for "banter" this is most likely not the place for you. Also, you may be good at German because that's what you'll see all around the hotel, we used google translate a fair bit. My partner had a massage there and didn't enjoy it, it was over priced and was on what he explained to be a plank of wood with a hole in it which was located in the gym area. He was not happy. In fact he got a massage for a 1/3 of the price a couple days later somewhere else and was far happier with it so if you are looking for a spa day i wouldn't rely on there for it.

What was the highlight of Lanka Princess Hotel

A beautiful garden environment to relax, right next to the beach.

The gardens were verdant and the best we have seen in Sri Lanka. The food was good and the rooms were spacious and had everything we needed. I especially liked the outside eating area that was covered with umbrellas and trees. A very nice peaceful environment. Several entertainment events available to enjoy if one wants and plenty of loungers, towels etc.. Walk outside and you are on the beach with lots of shops, restaurants and a safe place to snorkel.

As most guests are on inclusive packages it did take quite some time and a lot of paperwork to order and receive anything outside our B&B package. It did not affect our enjoyment but best to know that most of the guests are speaking German as their mother tongue.

We were there during low season so it was nice to get...

We were there during low season so it was nice to get sunbeds right by the pool each morning. Our room also fronted onto the pool. The hotel is very well designed with a somewhat open air reception area and the restaurant/terrace next to landscaped ponds. The room and the bed were very comfortable and the whole resort was just a very pleasant place to be overall. Good access to the beach also. Staff were quite accommodating and courteous.

The staff were very cheerful and pleasant but as most of the clientele were German, slight priority was given to them. One morning at breakfast I put bread in the toaster (one brown slice, one white) A member of staff kindly offered to bring it over to my table rather than have me wait for it, which I appreciated. He then came out and gave my toast to a German guest at another table that he was very attentive toward. He came out a few minutes later with two slices of white toast for me. Not that big a deal and I wouldn't have minded at all but I did put the toast in myself and waited thirty seconds or so before he offered to bring it to me. Not nice to feel passed over for someone else even if it is just a little thing. One of the managerial staff was a German woman who chatted to the German guests each morning. I once got a "hello" from her but that was all. Of course, that wouldn't bother anyone, but the only time she actually chatted to us was just after we checked out and were waiting for our taxi. She was very pleasant to chat to but as our taxi was late she let us know we could always use one of the hotel's taxis. I don't really think this was her main motivation for chatting with us but at the same time it did occur to me that there was an opportunity for a sale. She was not pushy in ANY way at all, but as I hadn't observed her chatting to non-German guests at all it did make me think twice.

If youre middle-aged and German, looking to relax, this is the place for you!

European standards of clean, the room was comfortable with a nice view, the lounge chairs by the pool were fantastic.The gardens were beautiful also and there was generally a nice atmosphere. pretty much what you would expect from any 'all-inclusive' hotel, even though I only went for the breakfast arrangement.

Hotel was completely German, including the information in the room and the movies showing on the television. For someone who is not German, this was a but frustrating. Hotel is filled with middle-aged people. As a younger female, I the hotel staff was a little to eager to interact with me and even approached me outside the hotel.
